The Division for the Vice Provost of University Life provides student support services. VPUL's mission supports the three tenets of Penn's Campus Compact: increased access; integrative knowledge, and local and global engagement.

Student Health

The Student Health Service offers affordable and accessible care tailored to fit the needs of students. Student Health provides clinical care, coordinates public health programs and activities for students, and administers the university’s immunization and insurance requirements.

Office of Health Education

The Office of Health Education (OHE) provides harm reduction and public health promotion services to the campus which include data collection and analysis, educational workshops, health awareness events and campaigns, academic courses, trainings and consultations. OHE also provides on-site massage therapy and confidential HIV testing. In addition, the office houses a health resource collection of brochures, books, videos, demonstration kits, and training manuals available to the Penn community, along with free condoms and safer sex supplies.

Strategic Initiatives

The Office of Alcohol Policy Initiatives is a unique department, designed to coordinate the implementation of the goals, objectives and activities of the Working Group on Alcohol Abuse as well as help shape, define and execute future alcohol and other drug prevention initiatives.

Office of Student Life

The Office of Student Life, a department within the Division of University Life, has administrative responsibility for student activities and governance, student performing arts, University Life leadership training programs, the PennQuest and PENNacle pre-orientation programs, and campus-wide special events such as Family Weekend, "No Place Like Penn" Weekend, Homecoming, Spring Fling, Hey Day and Ivy Day. The Office serves as a primary source of information and advice about co-curricular opportunities and resources.

Campus Resource Centers

The University Life Division provides resources that recognize and support the needs of center-specific service populations; develops programs that encourage social, cultural, and civic engagement between and across all of the diverse students on Penn's campus; promotes a greater understanding of different cultures; and helps recruit, retain, and graduate a diverse student population at Penn. We also provide case, emergency, and intervention support services. We oversee career services for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services)

Counseling and Psychological Services offer a wide range of services including: individual and group counseling and therapy, crisis intervention, structured workshops, psychological testing, medication reviews, and consultation.

CHAS (College houses and Academic Services)

Provides information about the college house system, individual college houses, residential programs, and the housing application process.

Penn Transit

Penn Transit, operated by the Division of Business Services, can take students already on-campus west, north, or east of campus between 6pm and 7am. Within Penn Transit’s service area students can be taken home during the same hours, or if west of campus they can be taken to another off-campus location. We offer both Penn Bus and Penn Shuttle services from our 13 Transit Stops and Pickup Points. Penn Shuttles provide door-to-door service, while the Penn Bus will pick you up at any stop sign or traffic signal along its route.
