The Campaign
The Division of Public Safety, in collaboration with the UA, GAPSA, MERT, and UMC, is launching Operation Theft Awareness, a new safety education initiative, to further promote the idea that ‘Safety & Security is a Shared Responsibility’ and encourage all members of the Penn community to be vigilant and proactive about reducing the opportunity for theft to occur in our community.
Operation Theft Awareness will be in effect from January 30th, through April 30th.
You will notice posters and tent cards displayed in buildings and establishments around campus that serve as reminders to properly secure your items. Each time you see one of these displays think:“Where is my laptop? Ipod? Wallet? Bike? Did I properly secure it?”
Theft: More Than Just Personal PropertySerious consequences are associated with theft of personal items. Besides the loss of personal property, theft is also inconvenient and may result in the loss of things that are of substantial emotional and professional significance.
Unattended and improperly secured items put you at greater risk of theft, which can result in:
- Identify theft
- Loss of irreplaceable photos
- Loss of all of your phone contact numbers
- Loss of important work, such as a thesis or research analysis
You can be a part of the solution!
Embrace the idea that ‘Safety & Security is a Shared Responsibility’ and take the following simple, yet important, steps to keep your personal items safe:
- Lock your doors
- Keep your laptop with you at all times
- Secure your bike with a U-Lock
- Remove personal items from vehicles that are in plain view
- Report Suspicious Activity
Please report any suspicious activity to Penn Police by calling
215-573-3333 or 511 from any campus phone
Before you walk away from your property…Stop, Think & Secure
