Philadelphia's South Street Bridge Project
Welcome!

The South Street Bridge has officially been closed as of December 8, 2008 to ALL vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The reconstruction of Philadelphia's South Street Bridge will have an impact on the day-to-day operations of commuting to and from Penn and its Health System. This specially designed website offers Penn faculty, students, staff, alumni, visitors, and vendors helpful information for navigating Penn's campus during the City of Philadelphia's reconstruction of the Bridge.

The demolition and rebuilding of the bridge requires complete closure of the structure between Convention Avenue (still listed as Civic Center Blvd on Google Maps) and 27th Street, including the on- and off-ramps connecting South Street and I-76. Please be prepared for significant vehicular congestion throughout University City, as well as periodic traffic and parking changes in the vicinity of campus for the duration of this 24-month project.

If you commute via SEPTA and utilize the University City Station, please visit our FAQ section for more information.

As information about this project and its impact on the Penn Community becomes available, we will post it on this website. More information on the City's plans can be viewed by visiting their official website at:

Plan Penn Events Wisely!

Penn Cal Penn hosts a robust array of special events throughout the year and the closure of the South Street Bridge may impact the ease with which attendees arrive and depart from campus.

If you are planning an event at Penn, or attending one, please take time to plan ahead by visiting this Penn Calendar to be aware of other events occurring simultaneously that may impact traffic or congestion. If you have an event coming up, make sure to add it to the calendar so that others can plan accordingly.

How You Can Help

Please help us spread the word. Penn Publications Services has designed two flyers which announce the bridge closure, publicize the website and urge people to make a plan. We encourage you to download the PDF’s and take them to your printer to be used as flyers, posters, note cards, etc. Or contact your account representative at Penn Publication Services. They will be happy to help you with your printing needs.
