PAL Basketball Championship Held at the Palestra!
This President’s Day, Penn’s Division of Public Safety and Penn Athletics partnered with the PAL organization to host a special basketball championship event on the court of the historic Palestra. PAL kids enjoyed their out-of-school time on our campus and under the guidance of their mentors from the Penn and Philadelphia Police Departments. The event engages children in a fun, safe, and free fitness-based activity.
As an extension of PAL’s Fitz Dixon Basketball Program, PAL Day at the Palestra helps PAL in broadening its reach beyond the program to serve a larger number of children, for more time, and have a larger impact on Philadelphia’s at-risk youth. Through the PAL Day at the Palestra event, PAL, Penn’s Division of Public Safety, and Penn Athletics, provided PAL kids with a day of basketball fun, fitness and enjoyable time spent with friends and peers.

Mission: Cops Helping Kids
For over 75 years, the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia (PAL) has enriched the lives of Philadelphia’s underserved youth, offering athletic, learning, and cultural programs that promote positive character development and improve educational outcomes. Through “cops helping kids,” PAL Centers help youth build positive and enduring relationships with Philadelphia Police Officers, while keeping them safe and offering enriching experiences.
