The University of Pennsylvania Police Department is one of the largest private police departments in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with 116 members. All personnel of the UPPD are full-time sworn municipal police officers certified through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and under state law retain the same enforcement authority as any other police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
University of Pennsylvania Police Officers are responsible for the operational law enforcement functions of the Division of Public Safety. These functions include protection of life and property, preservation of peace, maintenance of good order, responding to calls for service, enforcing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania statutes, the City of Philadelphia ordinances and University policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as provide for the safety and security of the University community.

The entry-level salary is $45,957.88 with a shift differential of 10% for officers assigned to evening/night shifts.
Qualified applicants must:
Be Act 120 certified (a graduate of a Pennsylvania municipal police academy or a graduate of an out-of-state police academy program recognized by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission );
Possess a valid Driver’s License;
Be at least 21 years of age; and
Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Further, all applicants must pass a physical, psychological, and drug screen prior to appointment.
