Emergency Preparedness

Be Prepared, Be PennReady!

Emergency preparedness at the University of Pennsylvania is managed under the PennReady program. PennReady began in the fall of 2007 as part of an evolution of extensive emergency preparedness activities that date back to the development of the Crisis Management Plan prior to the events of September 11, 2001.

Being PennReady means to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from any and all emergencies that could affect the Penn and University City communities. It means having a comprehensive plan extending from all levels of emergency personnel down through the individuals that make up our community to prevent situations that cause emergencies; it means preparing people on the procedures to follow should a crisis occur; it means having a well collaborated response approach from University officials and City, State and Federal agencies to effectively mitigate any crisis; and finally it means being ready and able to recover quickly from emergency events to keep the mission of Penn actively moving forward.

We at the Division of Public Safety implore all members of the Penn community to take an active role in the emergency preparedness initiative of the University. You can be a part of the PennReady program by becoming a team member; installing AEDs in your building; ensuring that your building has an emergency plan; partnering with DPS through educational presentations and drills, all to ensure your safety and the safety of your fellow community members. Please take time to review this important part of our website and familiarize yourself with the many resources available to you here at Penn.
