The Passing of Officer James Morrison
It is with a heavy heart the Division of Public Safety announces the passing of Officer Jim (Jimmy) Morrison of the University of Pennsylvania Police Department. On Thursday, August 29th at 12:30pm, Jimmy was riding his motorcycle in Culpeper, Virginia, as part of his annual ride with the Blue Knights, a nonprofit organization of law enforcement officers who raise money for different charities. An 84-year old driver pulled into Jimmy’s path, causing Jim to swerve and crash to avoid colliding with the other vehicle. Jimmy was taken to a local hospital, but unfortunately died from his injuries at 2:00 pm. Fortunately, Jimmy’s family was on the trip and at his side.
Jimmy joined the UPPD in 2007, after 13 years with the Philadelphia Housing Authority Police. Jimmy also served our country as a member of the Armed Forces, deployed on several combat missions in the past ten years.
Jimmy was an integral part of our UPPD Motorcycle Patrol, known to always be smiling. He will be missed by all members of the Penn Community.
Please keep Jimmy’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
