Electric Scooter Thefts

The Division of Public Safety is investigating an increase in electric scooter thefts in the Penn Patrol zone. Thefts have occurred throughout the patrol zone and are focused in the following areas: 34th and Spruce to Convention Avenue in the Medical Complex area, and along 40th Street from Market to Spruce Streets. This trend is being seen throughout the City of Philadelphia and on Drexel’s campus as well. We wish to inform and protect the community by working together to prevent additional thefts.

There are steps you can take to help reduce the likelihood of a theft, such as properly securing your e-scooter to a scooter or bike rack, registering your property with Campus Express, and being aware of your surroundings.

Ways to stay safe:

  • Register Register your property! PennCard holders may register their property through Campus Express at www.campusexpress.upenn.edu, including a description and a photo.
  • Lock your device with a key and U-lock style lock.
  • Bicycles, e-scooters, and other personal mobility devices are prohibited on the sidewalks in Philadelphia, and restricted from use on University walkways.
  • Store your device outside of buildings, away from entrances, and secured with a U-lock to a bike or scooter rack.
  • Be mindful of other riders, vehicles, and always yield to pedestrians.
  • Always wear a helmet.

We encourage you to use the free services available to you and offer the below reminders:

  • Use Walking Escort to walk with you to any location between 30th Street and 43rd Streets, from Market Street to Baltimore Avenue 24/7; as well as west to 50th Street and north into Powelton between 10 am – 3 am.
  • Use PennRides for free transportation to both the West Philadelphia and Center City areas.
  • If you see something, say something. Report suspicious behavior immediately to Penn Police at 215-573-3333.
