Attempted Theft

Update: All clear in the area of 4200 block of Chestnut Street. Police and Security are patrolling the area. You may resume normal activity. UPennAlert: Attempted theft in the 4200 block of Chestnut Street. Police on scene, use caution, avoid the area.

Penn Police responded to a report of an attempted theft in the 4200 block of Chestnut Street. Upon arrival, the complainant stated they were approached by the suspect who asked for her to give him her property. The suspect then fled south on 42nd Street towards Sansom Street. No physical injuries were reported by the complainant.

Suspect is described as a dark complected Black male, tall, thin build, in his 30s, wearing all dark clothing.

Last seen heading south on 42nd Street near Sansom Street.

Police responding, use caution, avoid the area.

Self-defense and Empowerment Courses

Special Services offers free-of-charge self-defense classes to ALL Penn affiliates. These self-defense trainings empower individuals through communication and physical defense. We provide gender inclusive and expansive courses, separate courses for women and men, and private classes.

Students who complete an online virtual session will have the option to also attend an in-person training at 4040 Chestnut Street later this fall. Check back for additional information soon!

In consideration of my being permitted to participate in the University of Pennsylvania Division of Public Safety Virtual Self-Defense training, the sufficiency of which I hereby acknowledge , for myself and my heirs, executors and administrators, I hereby release and hold harmless The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and all of its divisions and their respective , trustees, officers, employees, agents, insurers, successors and assigns from any and all claims, liabilities, demands or causes of action related to any injuries or losses I may sustain as a result of my participation in the Virtual Self-Defense course, including any loss or damage claimed to be caused by the University. I understand that the course involves verbal and physical engagement over a total period of two (2) hours and I understand that the physical engagement includes air striking using hands, elbows, knees, and feet. I acknowledge that there are unavoidable risks associated with participation in this course, that bodily injury (including serious bodily injury), disability, and damage to property are among the risks to which I may be exposed, and I hereby agree to assume all risks associated with my participation in the course. Further, I agree to comply with all procedures and instructions for the course and I assume full responsibility for any injuries or damage that result from my failure to follow such procedures or instructions. By completing my registration for this course, I affirm that I have no physical or medical condition that would preclude my full participation in the course.
